2 days ago, the family went on a daytime bike tour with the Fat Tire bike company based out of Austin! The day after that, we did another bike tour that was at night time also with Fat Tire! The day tour had a lot more stops to learn about what we were looking at! The day tour also had a lot more easy, smooth, and level roads so it was a little easier than the night tour that had lots of bumpy and hilly roads. On the night tour, we stopped at the most delicious ice cream shop in Paris and maybe even France! I got Dark Chocolate, two scoops in a cone! Delicious! After that, we road our bikes to the Louvre and took lots of pictures! The night tour was not just bikes, we also did an hour boat ride down the Seine! It was VERY cold but worth it because we got to see the sparkling Eiffel Tower that only happens 5 minutes every night! One of the lessons from the night bike tour I will remember the most is that they repaint the Eiffel Tower every 7 years so it doesn’t get rusty and the next time they do it (in 2 or 3 years I think) they will change the color! Any one can vote on the color at the first floor of the Eiffel Tower and guess what is in the lead…………HOT PINK!!! I was angry… VERY angry. Anyways, here are some pictures:

First Dance Class in Paris!
A few days ago me and my mom decided that it was about time to take a dance class! After quite a bit of searching on the internet, my mom was able to find a studio that is open in the summer and most classes are in English. One of the surprising things we’ve found about studios in Paris is that they are usually closed in the summer which is very different from the way it is in the US because at home the summer is one of the most important parts of the year. Once we got to the studio and were told what building the class was in, we had quite a bit of trouble figuring out what class we were supposed to be taking. Eventually we decided to just take a Jazz class which ended up being fine. Thankfully the class was in English though the teacher did have to change to English and French about halfway through. The class was so much fun and we are incredibly sore now!
2 Days at Disney!
The time had finally come! We were going to Disneyland Paris! The first ride we did was Big Thunder Mountain where we rode inside and around a bunch of big mountains! There was one time I was about to hit my head but it went down right before! Our favorite three rides were:
3. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror! There is a huge building that says: HOLLYWOOD HOTEL! You go inside and it looks like an old building with cob-webs, old paintings and more spooky stuff. You go in a room and the doors shut and the lights go off. Lightning strikes and bookcases open up and it reveals a room in the walls with broken pipes and stuff. The service elevator stands in front of you and the doors open and you go inside. We sit down and strap in. The lady says all of the stuff like: Keep your hands and feet inside the ride bla bla bla. Then, she walks up to the door and mysteriously says, “Au revoir…” That means goodbye. She shuts the doors and you go up and drop and go up and drop and the elevator doors open and you see the ghosts of the hollywood stars in the hallways getting struck by lightning. You take a big drop. Then, you go up to the top of the hotel and the doors open and you see a huge view of Disneyland when you drop ALL THE WAY DOWN 16 floors! Then, the ride is over… For now…
2. ROCK’N’ ROLLER COASTER STARRING AEROSMITH! A super fast ride where you enter a car and it shoots off into a room full of darkness! The car has speakers BLASTING into your ear at full volume and it does 360’s, sharp turns, sudden drops, and more! It was so awesome!
1. Space Mountain: Mission 2! If you’ve done Space Mountain at Disney world, then you will love Space Mountain: Mission 2! Space Mountain doesn’t go upside down, it just does sharp turns and sudden drops and stuff. This one goes upside down, does cork screws and so much more! There is planets and astroids and a bunch of stuff! You start off by shooting up through a tube and entering a big, dark dome! From then on, its just a big ball of craziness! After it, I didn’t want to go on ANY other rides because 1. I would get an upset stomach and 2. non of them would compare to Space Mountain: Mission 2!
It was a great trip to Disney Paris and I hope we go back soon!
Speedos. Its the LAW!
A friend of mine presented me with the gift of a speedo (in fromt of the entire Acton student body, of course) and said id need it in France. Turns out she wasnt kidding.
We’re at disney paris today, and at the local hotel we decided to take a dip. But the lady at the desk said, “no, no, no” (which is french for no). Speedos are the ONLY acceptable swimwear for males in public pools in france?
Of course, there was a handy vending machine right behind her. 12 euros for men: 7 euros for boys. Ive bought a lot of junk out of a vending machine before. But this was a first.
So Finally the pic youve been waiting for. Guess which were mine and which were chris’s???
Movie Making in The Canal Saint-Martin!
Yesterday we decided that we wanted to explore new parts of paris so we went to the other side of town to a neighborhood called The Canal Saint-Martin. One bookstore caught our eye so we decided to go in. The bookstore was really neat, most of the books had to do with graphic design or photography or moviemaking. Once we came out though there was a real movie being filmed right outside the store! We sat down and watched them work for a while and watched a rather large guy steal a bike over ten times. The director was speaking in French so we weren’t sure what the move is called, but if you ever happen to be watching a bunch of French movies make sure to look out for us because we might have gotten into the shot just a few times.
First Paris Haircut!
To start the day off today, I got my first Paris haircut! When I got there, the lady luckily spoke a little english so I didn’t have to point. I was so exited not to feel sweaty all the time!

Ultimate Paddleball
For dinner today, we went to a wonderful park with beautiful plants and trees and trails! We brought four rackets and a ball to play paddleball at the park! We sat down under the shade of a tree and ate our “quality burgers” to fuel our stomachs and then we got up and hit the ball back and fourth until we started to get the hang of it.Once we were able to hit it back and forth a few times, we made a goal to hit it 20 times in the air before we leave. We kept on getting six’s and sevens and then one time we got thirteen. After lots of tries, we reached 22! But we didn’t want to stop. So we made a goal to get at least over 22 and after lots of tries, we suddenly had a round where everybody was focused only on the ball. We got all the way to 31! We were really exited! We decided to stop there so we sat down at a bench and drank lots of water!
Too much Paris?
In our first 24 hours, the Carpenters:
Visited the top of the Arc de Triumph
Window browsed the ridiculous shops on the Champs d’Elysses
Had 18 inch hot dogs at the eiffel tower
Took a boat cruise along the beautiful Seine
Slept for 12 of the 24 hours.
Needless to say, we are way overdoing it, and will never make it at this pace. Especially the rookies (aka kids).
New schedule:
Morning: kids sleep in/blog/khan/wiiU/chill in apt. Parents exercise/hit non kid friendly spots (aka museums)
Afternoon: lunch out and ONE activity together (bus tour/despiicable me 2 in french/louvre/notre dame, etc)
Late afternoon: chill at apt
Evening: family picnic dinner at park, with frisbee and baseball (until we figure out the sport france is good at)
Next day: repeat.
This is all one big experiment: hopefully we’re on the right track.
Wonderful View of Paris
Once we got settled into our new apartment, we decided to talk a walk to the Arc de Triomphe because it was so close and we just wanted to see it! So we walked only a few blocks and there it was, right in front of us! It seemed a lot bigger than in the pictures! We saw lots of people at the top taking pictures so we decided to go up too! To get across the road to the Arc de Triomphe, you half to go in an underground tunnel. We had some trouble finding it and we ended up walking all the way around the Arc de Triomphe! We soon realized the underground entrance was just down our street and we didn’t need to walk all the way around though. We went underground and then came back up and went up the endless stairway to the top! We finally reached the top and the view was amazing! We saw everything like the Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame!
Chocolate Comes First
Today was a long day but we sure did get a lot out of it. We started the day by getting up at 4:15! We then went straight to the airport where we caught a two hourlong flight and then a connecting 1 hour flight. Our connection was in Germany so we got to hear another language that we weren’t expecting! Once we landed in Paris we took a taxi to our apartment. The apartment is amazing and has many hidden nooks and crannies! After we settled in a little bit we were ready to explore! Most people would guess that we would have gone to the Eiffel Tower first, or one of the many beautiful churches, but we decided to hold off on those for a while and go next door to the chocolate shop:)
This is a picture of our apartment…
